Farewell to Jesús Arruti, a great golf reference in Spain

The Spain Golf Community is in mourning due to the death of Jesús Arruti Lizaso, a great reference in golf teaching in our country.

Jesús Arruti, who focused his life very early on teaching golf and was a pioneer in establishing the bases of the way of understanding and applying the lessons on Spanish golf courses, has died in San Sebastián at the age of 83.

Arruti had an intense professional career that awarded him the RFEG Medal of Merit in Golf in 1984. He was a golf professional since 1958 and has a sports curriculum that includes the 1969 San Sebastián Open.

The San Sebastián Golf Club was the epicenter of his prolific educational activity, where hundreds of players like José María Olazábal learned and trained golf.

As a disciple of John Jacobs, Jesús Arruti Lizaso shared many of the teaching principles of the British professional and his extensive knowledge led him to direct the School of Monitors, Assistants and Teachers of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.

Since 1992, Arruti assumed the technical direction of the Travel Golf Courses and since then, hundreds of children from all over Spain have enjoyed his teaching methods, retaining many generations of golfers to this sport.

From Golf Santa Marina we would like to convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jesús Arruti Lizaso, a prominent and beloved figure in Spain.
