The spirit of Severiano Ballesteros was strongly felt this weekend at Golf Santa Marina, host of the decisive round of the inaugural Ruta Seve, a circuit that brings together three sister courses —Meaztegi, Izki and Santa Marina— all designed by the mind that transformed Spanish golf.
After several weeks of autumn competition, the triangular event concluded at the Cantabrian course with a vibrant atmosphere and a field marked by passion for the game and deep respect for the legacy of the Pedreña champion.
Ruta Seve was created with a clear objective: to showcase, within a single circuit, three distinct interpretations of Ballesteros’ course architecture. Three accessible, sustainable courses managed by PGA of Spain professionals, united by a single idea: golf should be within everyone’s reach.
Throughout the event, players not only enjoyed the strategic design and technical challenge of each course, but also the shared identity they embody—creativity, courage and Seve’s well-known motto, “a great attitude is worth more than a great swing.”
The event relied on the essential collaboration of Club Hole in One, whose support has been crucial in consolidating this project in its first year.
Each club fielded a mixed team of 12 players who competed in eight matches at each venue: four fourball duels and four singles. The format ensured that strategy and character were as decisive as technical skill, creating tightly contested pairings and many matches decided in the final holes.
In the grand final held at Santa Marina, the home team delivered an excellent performance, claiming victory in the triangular event and lifting the first Ruta Seve trophy.
Although competition played an important role, the defining feature of this first edition was the atmosphere. The three clubs enjoyed days where golf blended with the gastronomy of northern Spain and a spirit of camaraderie that reflected Ballesteros’ own vision of the sport.
Ruta Seve emerges as more than just a triangular tournament; it aims to become an annual meeting point for those who wish to experience firsthand three courses that embody the talent and vision of one of Spain’s most admired athletes.
From Golf Santa Marina, the invitation remains open. The courses of Meaztegi, Izki and Santa Marina welcome all golfers who want to experience the game from Seve’s perspective: with enthusiasm, creativity and attitude.
