Impressive Performance by José Antonio Salas in the U16 England–Spain Match

José Antonio Salas López was part of the Spanish U16 team that competed in the 2025 edition of the traditional England–Spain U16 Match.

The Spanish team was made up of Andalusians Samuel Love and Luis del Rosal, Madrid’s Liz Hao, Navarre’s Aroa González, Barcelona’s Adriana García Terol, Cantabria’s José Antonio Salas, Aragón’s Nicolás González, and Valencia’s Carlota López.

The tournament format featured two identical days of play, with morning sessions consisting of four foursomes matches (two boys’ and two girls’), followed by eight singles matches in the afternoon.

The Saturday session proved challenging for the Spanish side, who fell behind in both formats. The morning foursomes ended 3–1 in favor of England, with Luis del Rosal (1up) securing Spain’s only point. In the afternoon singles, Spain earned 3 points through wins by Samuel Love (4&3) and Adriana García Terol (2up), plus halved matches by José Antonio Salas and Luis del Rosal, for a day one score of 8–4 in favor of England.

On Sunday, the focus was on collecting as many points as possible. In the morning foursomes, Adriana García Terol and Liz Hao earned a point (2&1), as did José Antonio Salas and Nicolás González (5&4), but the other two matches went to the English team.

The afternoon singles presented further difficulty. José Antonio Salas (1up) secured Spain’s only win, while Aroa González and Nicolás González halved their matches, leading to a final score of 16–8 for England.
