In compliance with what was agreed at the Cantabria Golf Federation Board of Directors’ Meeting of 19 December 2024, on Thursday 13th March, in the ballroom of the Palacio de la Magdalena, Juan Carlos Alba Cernadas, President of the Cantabria Golf Federation, with the presence of the Mayoress of Santander, Ms. Gema Igual Ortiz, the Board of Directors and members of the Cantabria Golf Federation Assembly, the President of the Cantabria Golf Federation, the President of the Cantabria Sports Federations and the heads of the different golf courses in the region, presented Mr. Gonzaga Escauriaza with the medal and the gold badge, the President of Sports Federations of Cantabria and the heads of the different golf courses in the region, to the presentation to Mr. Gonzaga Escauriaza Barreiro, of the Gold Medal and Gold Badge of Merit of the Cantabrian Golf Federation, in recognition of his work in the promotion and dissemination of golf in Spain as President of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation from 2008 to 2024, as well as his support to the initiatives for the promotion and expansion of golf in Cantabria.
At the opening of the ceremony, Juan Carlos Alba Cernadas, highlighted the merits that support the delivery of the highest recognition of the Federation, highlighting the concern and predisposition in favour of golf in Cantabria, both in his visits to our community, as in the contribution of technical solutions (when needed) by specialists of the RFEG, as well as projects in expansion of new technical possibilities of golfing excellence that are underway.

The Mayoress of Santander also thanked Gonzaga for his advisory work and technical contributions to the new projects under study by the Santander City Council.
After the speeches, Juan Carlos Alba presented the Gold Medal and Gold Badge of Merit, as well as a Plaque of Recognition from the Mayoress of Santander.

The ceremony was closed by the honoree, who made it clear throughout the presentation of various anecdotes, that golf has more than repaid him for the work he has done as president over the years.
